About the RoleThe Accounting Operations Specialist (Federal Accounting Oversight) will support the Department of the Navy (DON), Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Financial Management and Comptroller (OASN (FM&C)) Secretariat Comptroller & Resources Department (SCRD). This is a hands-on accounting operations role focused on execution, analysis, and issue resolution within Navy ERP.
The specialist will play a critical role in supporting month-end close, resolving accounting system issues, and delivering accurate, actionable financial information to senior leadership. The position operates in a high-tempo federal environment and requires independent judgment, strong ERP expertise, and deep understanding of Navy accounting operations.
What You’ll Do- Accounting Operations
- Support month-end close activities, including reconciliations, reporting, and variance analysis, in accordance with federal accounting standards.
- Support setup of new fiscal years, including Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and Unit Identification Codes (UIC).
- Independently research, analyze, and resolve accounting discrepancies within Navy ERP.
- Produce accurate financial data and reports to support leadership decision-making.
- Financial Operations & Compliance
- Perform quality control reviews to ensure compliance with federal regulations and Navy-specific accounting policies.
- Support audit activities by responding to data requests and providing complete, accurate supporting documentation.
- Assist in maintaining audit readiness, financial transparency, and documentation standards.
- Problem Resolution & Process Improvement
- Provide hands-on support resolving Unmatched Transactions (UMTs), accounting error codes, and system anomalies.
- Identify root causes of recurring accounting issues and recommend corrective actions.
- Assist with improving internal controls and processes to enhance data accuracy, timeliness, and reliability.
- U.S. Citizenship
- Active or Interim Secret clearance (Iberia will not sponsor new investigations)
- Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance, or a related field
- 8+ years of experience in federal accounting operations or financial management
- Strong Navy or USMC accounting operations experience (Navy preferred, USMC acceptable)
- Demonstrated ability to independently operate within Navy ERP
- Experience supporting multimillion-dollar portfolios, including data creation, analysis, and projections
- Experience with FP&A-related functions such as funding distributions, status-of-funds analysis, and execution tracking
- Ability to analyze financial statements, accounting reports, and system-generated data
- Strong critical thinking, planning, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a high-tempo operational environment
- Navy or USMC veteran or former DoD civilian employee
- Professional certifications such as CPA (preferred), CDFM, or CGFM
- Advanced experience resolving UMTs and accounting error codes in Navy ERP
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex financial issues clearly to non-accounting stakeholders
- Experience supporting audit remediation and sustained audit readiness efforts
- Deep, hands-on Navy ERP accounting operations experience
- Ability to independently identify, research, and resolve accounting issues
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy
- Reliability in meeting deadlines during month-end close and audit cycles

Location: Up to 5 days per week onsite at the Pentagon
Schedule: Client coverage required between 0800–1700 ET
Salary Range: $140,000 – $178,000, commensurate with experience and fit
