Our Washington, DC-based nonprofit is looking for a Junior Accountant / Accounting Assistant to support our finance team and help ensure the integrity of our financial systems. What You'll Do

As a key member of our accounting team, you'll:

• Assist with day-to-day accounting operations, including journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close
• Maintain and reconcile the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP and internal policies
• Support grant and fund accounting processes, including proper expense tracking and reporting
• Help prepare financial statements, audit schedules, and internal reports
• Collaborate with departments to gather and process financial data
• Assist in the implementation of improved financial procedures and systems

What We're Looking For

• 1–5 years of relevant experience in general ledger accounting, preferably in a nonprofit setting
• Working knowledge of GAAP and fund accounting principles
• Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., Quick Books, Sage Intacct, or similar)
• Strong Excel skills and attention to detail
• A proactive, collaborative mindset and the ability to juggle multiple priorities
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience)
