SCOPETo provide leadership, guidance and support to all Counselors and Junior Counselors in assigned units. Develop and implement unit activities and events and ensure that safety and appropriate supervision is provided for all campers at all times. Assist with the training and development of Junior Counselors assigned to your unit. Provide discipline for staff and campers in the unit. Provide and plan for staff enrichment through weekly meetings with staff.
All positions are meant to support the mission of Camp Arnold, in word and deed, to teach campers about Jesus Christ.
- Attend and participate in all camp programs and spiritual activities.
- Maintain standard of cleanliness in personal grooming and in living quarters.
- Assist with the clean-up of the total camp at the end of each session and at the conclusion of the summer.
- Complete and submit to the Timberlake Program Director an End of Summer Brief with recommendations for the future.
- Assist with other duties as needed.
Safety and Supervision:
- Assume responsibility for the supervision and direction of the Timberlake staff in assigned units.
- Enforce camp policies and procedures.
- Maintain the utmost level of safety for staff and campers at all times.
- Ensure compliance with American Camping Association standards of safety and programmatic conduct at all times.
- Coordinate and implement all program components relative to the daily schedule in a timely fashion.
Weekly Responsibilities:
- Encourage and support the Timberlake staff in assigned unit through prayer and one-on-one meetings.
- Assume responsibility for the direct supervision and direction of the Counselors and Jr Counselors of assigned unit.
- Work with Timberlake Program Director to assign Junior Counselors to programs and cabin tasks appropriate to their training.
- Work closely and cooperatively with Counselors in assigned units to ensure the smooth delegation of responsibilities. Empower staff to have full and equal authority over the cabin with a clear communication plan.
- Be present at the Initial Cabin Meetings of cabins in assigned unit.
- Assist with cabin management when and where needed.
- Plan and implement Unit activities as dictated by the Timberlake Daily Schedule.
- Complete any required forms related to camper or program evaluation, or health documentation.
- Complete the daily entries required in the Camper Log book and submit for periodic review as required; turn in at the end of each week.
- Attend and direct Weekly Camp Outs; plan the flow of the event and provide staff direction as it pertains to roles.
- Teach and model appropriate counseling techniques to all counseling staff.
- Implement a weekly Unit Meeting to address camper issues, activities, programs, and prayer time.
- Check in daily with each Counselor and Junior Counselor in the unit.
- Prepare weekly Counselor and Jr Counselor evaluations and share with staff; submit to the Program Director after review and signatures.
- Ensure assigned unit is supervised at all times in accordance with Camp Arnold policies.
- Facilitate exit evaluation of each Counselor and Junior Counselor in the unit.
- Assist in conducting all camp program activities as needed.
- Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.
- Ability to grasp, push, pull objects and reach overhead.
- Ability to operate telephone.
- Ability to operate a desktop or laptop computer.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
- Ability to access and produce information from a computer.
- Ability to understand written information.
