South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust (SWFT) is a teaching hospital associated with the University of Warwick Medical School (WMS) and the University of Buckingham Medical School (uBMS).

We are advertising for a Clinical Education Fellow at SPR level to join our medical education team in providing education and training to both medical students and resident doctors.

This post has a particular focus on simulation-based education. The successful applicant will play a key role in the design, delivery and development of simulation and skills teaching across undergraduate, postgraduate and multidisciplinary programmes within the Trust.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Teaching Fellow - Simulation

The medical education simulation team at SWFT is led by Dr Rathinavel Shanmugam working with a simulation educator and a technician. We also have a lead nurse who works across workforce and medical education and co-ordinates simulation activities within the Trust.

The Trust has an education facility off site (Acorn House) which includes two fully equipped simulation suites, high fidelity manikins, state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment and the support of a multidisciplinary simulation faculty. All of our clinical educators have the opportunity to be involved in the running and development of simulation.

Job responsibilities

The post-holder will take a lead, supported by the Director of Medical Education, simulation educator, technician and multidisciplinary faculty, in medical education simulation and skills courses. This will include delivery and also reviewing and developing scenarios and teaching materials to ensure consistently high quality teaching is delivered to our students and postgraduate doctors. The post-holder will also be required to participate in non-medical workforce simulation sessions, including in- situ simulation sessions.

When there are no simulation sessions planned the post-holder will participate in other teaching sessions which are delivered by the CEF team.

Professional Experience
  • Current full registration with the General Medical Council
  • Four years post-graduation experience working in medicine
  • Experience of working in a UK NHS setting including knowledge of healthcare policies and systems
  • MRCP/MRCS or equivalent
