Responsibilities
  • Attain sales goals established by the Company within the designated territory and budget.
  • Increase sales of current accounts and establish new accounts.
  • Position self as a product specialist: present, educate, and provide in-services on the process/procedure of accurately using the Company’s products to surgeons, OR staff, and other individuals.
  • Provide on-site technical support during procedures to ensure accurate use of the products.
  • Train and educate physicians and hospital staff on the use of the products.
  • Ensure surgeons and staff have the most current product information available.
  • Ensure effective utilization by all trained surgeons within territory.
  • Maintain detailed knowledge and capabilities of the products, channels, and methods of distribution.
  • Be responsible for meeting territory sales and profitability goals.
  • Develop new prospects and establish customers.
  • Advise customers of new and current products, backorders, general order status, current pricing structure, company policy changes, and forecasts for new needs.
  • Achieve timely, mutually satisfactory solutions to customers’ complaints.
  • Keep promises and appointments; exercise courtesy and ethical manners at all times.
  • Attend customers’ meetings and trade shows. Provide detailed post-convention reports: number in attendance, competitors present, new product introductions, and recommendations for subsequent shows.
  • Establish BD products as the standard for bid accounts through surgeon specifications.
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Minimum of 2 years sales experience; medical sales experience preferred.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and planning skills.
  • Detailed understanding of the needs/analysis approach to sales.
  • Understand the product buyer concept.
  • Understand contract administration.
  • Understand principles of group purchasing, including research, formulation, and proposal recommendation.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state-issued driver's license and meet BD's auto safety standards.
  • Must meet and maintain customer/medical facility access requirements, including regular or periodic drug screenings with a satisfactory result.
  • Ability to travel at least 60%, including overnight travel.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Procedure knowledge adequate to illustrate convincingly the benefits of the Company’s products.
  • Basic anatomy.
  • Ability to discuss the various products in relation to the human body.
  • Familiarity with medical and surgical terminology.
