Position: Goodwill Store Associate P/T

Goodwill of Southern New England is seeking a part‑time Store Associate to support overall store operations.

Hourly Pay

$16.94 - $22.70 per hour.

Summary

Goodwill Store Associate may be trained on all non‑management aspects of store operations. Under general supervision of the Store Manager or manager‑in‑charge, the Retail Store Associate assists in all store activities—receiving and processing donations, completing sales transactions on the POS system, displaying items on the sales floor, and maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for donors and shoppers.

Special Requirements

Will typically be required to work regular weekend (Saturday, Sunday), holiday and evening hours customary to the retail trade.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Store Operations
  • Sort, price, and display quality merchandise for sale.
  • Properly discard unsellable merchandise into appropriate containers (Outlet, Salvage, Trash, etc.).
  • Maximize used goods processing through Goodwill techniques—sorting, preparing, and pricing items for sale to meet or exceed production goals.
  • Follow store rotation schedule by completing pulls at scheduled times in assigned store areas.
  • Maintain sales floor appearance, cleanliness, and shopping environment, including floor care, fitting rooms, cash register area, aisles, trash receptacles, lights, restrooms, and shops’ exterior lighting.
  • Assist with general light maintenance of immediate grounds (windows, doors, sidewalks, parking lot lights, dumpster area, landscaping).
Customer Service
  • Assist shoppers on the sales floor in locating and selecting merchandise.
  • Complete sales transactions on the POS system accurately and promptly.
  • Accept donations by greeting donors at their vehicles, escorting items into the store, and always offering a receipt.
  • Carry larger, heavier items to customers’ vehicles after sales transactions as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate good judgment at the cash wrap to protect agency assets such as cash and jewelry.
Safety, Security and Loss Prevention
  • Maintain store and surroundings to keep the area free of safety hazards and assist with cleaning/ice melt/snow removal.
  • Adhere to all safety, health and emergency procedures.
  • Manage stored merchandise in staging areas and ensure aisles and production areas remain uncluttered.
  • Report any observations of theft or other wrongdoing.
  • Assist with loading/unloading trucks and use of seals & documentation for internal transfer of goods per agency procedures.
  • Perform other related essential duties as required or assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED preferred, but not required.
  • One to three months related experience or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Basic language skills: ability to read and comprehend simple instructions and communicate with customers.
  • Mathematical skills: ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  • Reasoning ability: apply common sense to carry out instructions and deal with standardized situations.
  • Physical ability: stand, walk, reach, lift up to 25 lbs regularly and up to 100 lbs occasionally; push crates up to 600 lbs on flat or sloped surfaces.
  • Capability to use hand trucks, straddle stackers, electric pallet jacks, or other material handling equipment as needed.
  • Comfortable handling of donations and large items for display or disposal.
  • Basic vision requirements: close, distance, and color vision.
