Job Summary

The Director of Clinical Informatics manages the clinical computer applications for Care New England in the inpatient setting. The role oversees the Clinical Informatics Team, Specialists, and Analysts supporting all inpatient applications, serves as liaison between OU leadership and the IS Department, executes approved plans, manages budgets, and ensures compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities

I. Application of Knowledge and Skill

Develops goals and objectives for the Clinical Applications group and assists with development of overall department goals and objectives. Coordinates the preparation and processes of computer systems to solve problems and achieve identified goals. Interacts with customers and other IS staff regarding priorities and appropriate application of software and computer technology. Works with vendors to specify and acquire products and services.

Manages Human Resources effectively. Maintains a 24‑hour on‑call support capability to support CNE operations. Supports development of annual budgets. Preserves and protects employee and patients’ rights to confidentiality. Performs other job‑related duties as assigned or directed.

Effectively prioritizes own work in order to complete job responsibilities. Displays ability to adjust priorities based upon understanding of policies and procedures. Completes job responsibilities within required timeframe, according to established schedules or workflow requirements. Provides input to improve current methods, services, programs or technology. Reviews and assesses information before making decisions and solving problems. Uses proper judgment and knowledge of established practices and procedures when addressing problems or issues.

III. Customer Service

Establishes and maintains effective relationships with customers, gaining their trust and respect. Anticipates customer needs and proactively addresses them. Understands the customer’s business and the importance to the organization’s mission. Dedicated to meeting and exceeding expectations and requirements of internal and external customers. Follows established procedures and effectively uses tools to provide high‑level support.

IV. Teamwork

Demonstrates an ability to work well with employees at all levels across Care New England. Contributes information, ideas, and opinions in a group setting. Volunteers for team assignments or group problem solving. Represents own ideas and solutions while acknowledging and accepting ideas and solutions of others.

V. Communications

Written communication is clear, concise, and professional. Verbal communication is clear, professional in tone, non‑threatening, and appropriate. Identifies appropriate type of communication under different circumstances. Attentive, actively listens, and accurately relays information.

VI. Personal Development

Maintains professional growth and development. Participates in task forces and committees. Attends seminars, workshops, and conferences as appropriate.

VII. Leadership

Provides input and assistance in training and development of employees.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Information Systems and/or RN, or related field with minimum six years’ experience in application development/support and at least two years in management, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of systems development methodology, programming, analysis and troubleshooting is required. Experience in a healthcare environment and experience with Cerner is highly desirable.
