Job DescriptionThe Speech and Language Therapist is directly under the supervision of the Executive Director of Educational Programs. Supports students with disabilities within a small group and one‑to‑one setting, providing direct therapy. The therapist works collaboratively with teachers, teaching assistants, related service providers, and job coaches to provide direct therapy at the student’s appropriate level and ensure student access to academics, peers, and functional communication.
Minimum Qualifications- Department of Health credentials as a Certified Speech and Language Therapist in the State of Rhode Island
- Three years of experience as a speech and language therapist preferred
- Successful direct experience with children exhibiting communication deficits, social pragmatic, emotional and behavioral challenges
- Experience working with children with developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities and autism
- Training in conducting language evaluations, including augmentative communication
- Experience working with a team including Teaching Assistants
- Understanding of critical practices and systems of positive behavior support
- Evidence of successful engagement with families
- Knowledge of state and federal special education eligibility criteria
- Knowledge of special education laws and regulations and willingness to implement the special education process
- Knowledge of Individualized Education Programs
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to work with educators, administrators, and parents to problem‑solve challenging issues
- Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
