Our client is seeking a Truss Designer who will be responsible for creating accurate and optimized floor and roof truss layouts for residential, commercial, and agricultural buildings. This role uses MiTek software to design structurally sound trusses, ensure material efficiency, and support production and field teams with clear, buildable plans.
Please Note:
Office-based role with occasional job site visits
Responsibilities:
- Assist with training junior designers as needed.
- Maintain accurate job records and documentation.
- Read and interpret architectural and structural blueprints.
- Provide clear notation to support efficient production and assembly.
- Use MiTek software to engineer trusses and verify structural feasibility.
- Occasionally visit job sites to resolve design or engineering questions.
- Troubleshoot design issues and communicate solutions to internal teams.
- Ensure efficient material usage based on inventory and cost considerations.
- Collaborate with sales, manufacturing, shipping, and design team members.
- Produce truss layouts and designs according to plans, specifications, and quotes.
Qualifications/Must Haves:
- Basic CAD/drafting skills.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints.
- General knowledge of construction methods and building materials.
- 2+ years of experience designing trusses using MiTek or similar software.
- Understanding of structural engineering fundamentals (loads, transfer, TPI standards)
- Effective communication skills with architects, engineers, customers, and internal teams.
- Reliable transportation.
- All education levels will be considered; equivalent practical experience is fully acceptable.
Preferred
Skills:
- Technical degree in drafting, construction, or related field.
- Previous truss shop or building materials experience.
- Familiarity with local building codes and TPI standards.
