An exciting opportunity at Warrington & Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation. We are looking for an experienced midwife/nurse who has a passion for infant feeding to join our management team in the role of Specialist Infant Feeding lead.

The successful candidate will be driven, motivated and independently minded clinical professional who is able to act on their own initiative within agreed guidelines, adopting a values led, proactive leadership style within a climate of change to support the implementation of plans, performance, quality, care and compassion within the midwifery service.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will lead on fully implementing UNICEF UK Baby Friendly Initiative to enable Warrington and Halton NHS Foundation Trust achieve full accreditation. The infant feeding specialist will lead our infant feeding team to deliver high quality, family-centred support to the population of Warrington & Halton. As we work towards our Level 2 BFI Accreditation, the post holder will develop guidelines, information, and practices, which will promote and support breastfeeding locally and work in collaboration with staff and community services to implement & uphold the UNICEF BFI standards.

They will deliver evidence-based infant feeding training to equip staff with the skills and knowledge to confidently facilitate meaningful feeding conversations in both the antenatal and postnatal period. The post holder will work to increase breastfeeding initiation rates, by promoting the importance of education and strive to support our families with the most complex feeding needs, reducing the impact of the biggest risk factors for feeding related issues and readmission.

The role will include the gathering of information on needs and the views of women, retrieving & managing data and information. Attend relevant local and regional infant feeding forums and share learning across the organisation.

Demonstrate strong leadership to staff with particular reference to ensuring a positive approach to breast feeding.

Person Specification Experience
  • oSignificant experience working as a registered Midwife/Nurse
  • oKnowledge and understanding of UNICEF UK BFI Maternity Standards
  • oProject management / Change management
  • oClinical expertise in the management of infant feeding concerns
  • oExperience of working with an infant feeding coordinator role/ team
  • oKnowledge of UNICEF UK BFI neonatal standards
Qualifications
  • oRegistered Midwife/Nurse
  • oEvidence of recent BFI training and continuous professional development
  • oMasters level in relevant specialism (or equivalent)
  • oBFI Breastfeeding & Relationship Building Course
  • oUnderstanding of Audit Process and PDSA cycle
  • oExperience of writing reports and action plans
  • oExperience of Teaching/Training
  • oKnowledge of all relevant national policies and procedures
  • oKnowledge of NHS and wider issues
  • oExperience in evaluating research and audit findings
  • oFurther training with UNICEF BFI eg. Train the Trainer / Leadership courses
