Overview
Bookkeeper / Accounts Manager (Temp – Potential to Go Perm)
Location: Warrington (fully onsite)
Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 4:30pm
Salary: £30,000 – £35,000 (pro rata)
Start date: ASAP
We’re partnering with a vibrant and values-driven charity in Warrington, delivering meaningful day services and learning opportunities for adults with learning disabilities. With a beautiful heritage garden setting and a strong community presence, they’re now looking for a reliable, proactive finance professional to join their small team on a temporary basis – with the possibility of becoming permanent.
This is a great opportunity to take ownership of the charity’s day-to-day finance function and genuinely make a difference to the lives of others.
Responsibilities- Bookkeeping & Transaction Processing
- Maintain accurate financial records, including general ledger entries, bank reconciliations, and journals
- Process all income and expenditure, ensuring appropriate coding and cost allocation
- Handle gift shop and coffee shop income, including daily takings and reconciliation
- Invoicing & Income Tracking
- Generate and manage monthly invoices to the local council based on learner ratios and support packages
- Track income received and chase outstanding payments as required
- Liaise with the external accountant regarding invoicing structure and templates
- Payroll Support
- Maintain accurate staff payroll records, including hours, sick pay, annual leave, and other entitlements
- Cross-check payroll calculations against contracts
- Liaise with the external accountant who runs the final payment and HMRC submissions
- Financial Reporting & Forecasting
- Produce simple monthly financial reports using Xero (revenue vs cost, departmental income, etc.)
- Support budget forecasting and track against projections
- Highlight one-off costs or funding spikes for discussion with the Director of Operations
- Administrative & Compliance
- Ensure financial processes align with charity sector regulations and internal controls
- Support year-end preparation and audits
- Assist with other administrative tasks as required by the SMT
- AAT-qualified (or equivalent) – essential
- Proficient in Xero (including payroll module) – essential
- Previous experience in a charity or not-for-profit setting – desirable
- Comfortable working in a standalone finance role within a small team
- Able to hit the ground running with minimal supervision
- Emotionally intelligent, level-headed, and open to feedback
