Company Overview
Our client is a leading engineering and maintenance provider delivering complex engineering solutions across the UK energy sector. They specialise in enhancing asset performance, improving reliability, and supporting critical national infrastructure.
The business has a strong track record of delivering engineering services on National Grid Gas transmission and infrastructure projects, operating across the full project lifecycle — from concept and FEED through detailed design, construction support, commissioning, and asset optimisation.
Safety, regulatory compliance, and technical excellence are central to their delivery model.
The Role
Reporting to the Lead EC&I Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering Control & Instrumentation (C&I) design on National Grid Gas projects.
Typical scopes include work on gas transmission systems, compressor stations, AGIs, pressure reduction stations (PRS), pipeline modifications, and associated process plant infrastructure.
You will contribute across the full lifecycle — from early-stage design and FEED through to detailed design and commissioning — within a multi-discipline EPCM/EPC environment.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver C&I engineering and design in line with National Grid Gas specifications and project requirements
Produce and review key documentation including:
Instrument schedules and data sheets
Cable schedules and block diagrams
Control philosophies

Ensure compliance with relevant gas industry regulations and National Grid technical standards
Support delivery to agreed cost, schedule, and quality targets
Coordinate closely with Mechanical, Process, Civil & Structural, and Automation disciplines
Participate in HAZOPs, design reviews, and client technical meetings
Provide engineering support during construction, testing, and commissioning activities
About You
Minimum 3 years’ experience as a C&I / EC&I Engineer within an Engineering, EPCM, or EPC environment
Experience working on National Grid Gas projects or UK gas transmission infrastructure
Strong understanding of UK gas regulations, standards, and specifications
Solid technical knowledge across Electrical and Instrumentation disciplines
Experience in hazardous area design (ATEX / DSEAR desirable)
Degree qualified (BEng / BSc / MEng / MSc) in EC&I Engineering or similar
Organised, delivery-focused, and detail-oriented
Strong communication skills with the ability to interface effectively with clients and multi-discipline teams
