Job DescriptionWe have a Mechanical Design Engineer (Structural/FEA) role within Rolls‑Royce Civil Nuclear working on the Ultimate Diesel Generator (UDG) Project for Hinkley Point C (HPC). This project is of strategic importance to the UK and to Rolls‑Royce in contributing towards the transition to a low‑carbon future, as well as being the first nuclear power station built in the UK for 20 years.
The Mechanical Design Engineer, as part of the Rolls‑Royce Civil Nuclear Mechanical Team, will be responsible for the design and substantiation for a wide range of structures and components. The project incorporates the design, manufacture, installation and commissioning of several systems to make up the UDG provision. Therefore, the role not only offers an interesting and challenging design/substantiation role but also provides opportunities to see designs being realised, installed and commissioned, offering invaluable experience to the individual.
WhatYou Will Be Doing
- Undertaking design calculations in accordance with industry standard design codes and standards.
- Generate, evaluate, and select the most appropriate design based on cost whilst ensuring that they’re appropriate for use and compliant with any space constraints, customer, and UK regulatory specifications.
- Work with the Computer Aided Design (CAD) team to produce equipment fabrication drawings.
- Produce equipment specifications.
- Present designs at internal Technical Reviews.
- Work with fabricators to realise the designs.
- Previous experience in mechanical or structural/stress analysis.
- Creating detailed technical reports, presentations, analysis summaries, and recommendations for design improvements.
- Understanding of material properties.
- Knowledge of industry standards and regulations.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (or equivalent).
To work for Rolls‑Royce Submarines an individual must hold a Security Check clearance. We will support the application for Security Clearance if you don’t already have it. Due to the nature of work we conduct, we can only progress applications from individuals who are a UK national or, in MoD approved cases, a dual national.
