Role Overview

The Electrical Design Engineer will be responsible for delivering electrical design and project support across a range of building and infrastructure projects. The role involves leading electrical design activities from concept through to detailed design, supporting tenders, managing projects on site, and working closely with clients, internal teams, and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver electrical design and project management in line with organisational standards and project requirements
  • Lead and support the electrical design team, providing technical guidance
  • Liaise with clients and attend project and design meetings
  • Undertake site surveys, quality inspections, and condition reports
  • Monitor project costs and financial performance
  • Develop and maintain electrical and technical standards
  • Produce concept designs, specifications, and cost estimates to support tenders
  • Prepare detailed electrical designs including LV distribution, lighting, fire alarms, power, data and cable management systems
  • Carry out electrical calculations (e.g. loadings, voltage drop, protection)
  • Support HVAC and building systems design from an electrical perspective
  • Coordinate with controls teams to support control philosophy and system integration
  • Produce drawings and documentation in line with RIBA stages and BG6 frameworks
  • Manage on-site activities and resolve technical issues as they arise
Skills and Experience
  • Typically 5+ years’ experience in electrical design within a fast-paced, multi-site environment
  • Strong knowledge of current electrical regulations, industry standards, and best practice
  • Experience across LV systems (HV experience advantageous)
  • Chartered Engineer or working towards professional registration (e.g. CIBSE or IET)
  • Familiar with CIBSE Guides, BS7671 (18th Edition), British Standards, CDM Regulations and RIBA/BG6 frameworks
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and electrical design software (e.g. Amtech, Dialux/Relux)
