Overview
Rolls-Royce Civil Nuclear is seeking a Systems Design Engineer who can understand a multidisciplinary problem and methodically develop a solution. This role focuses on the holistic design and integration of complex electro-mechanical machinery and their supporting thermo-fluid systems.

What you will be doing
With this opportunity you will get a chance to:
- Apply a system engineering approach to realise a new system or modify an existing one within a project / multidisciplinary programme team.
- Understand complex specifications and articulate them for appropriate audiences. Author and review engineering documentation in line with company and project quality processes.
- Generate, evaluate, select and document the most suitable design or solution for a wide range of problems.
- Control and manage interface definitions/information internal to Rolls-Royce and externally with clients and suppliers.
- Define and monitor design substantiation/verification activities.
- Undertake basic design calculations and interpret results of more complex ones.
- Design schemes for electrical and control architectures.
- Produce and review design manuals, commissioning instructions and strategies, and other design reports.
- Assess supplier equipment proposals and review their deliverables.
- Define the scope of work packages and deliver against programme milestones (requirements documents, system operation and maintenance manuals, data sheets, optioneering studies, equipment specifications).
- Ensure quality governance, verification and validation for design gate reviews and contribute to design reviews, HAZOPs and other reviews.
Who we are looking for
We seek individuals who put safety first and embody Rolls-Royce values. To be successful you will need:
- Be a general engineer with a recognised engineering degree (e.g., mechanical, chemical or physics). A background in Mechanical or Process Engineering, with the ability to understand other disciplines as needed.
- Understanding of systems engineering as a discipline with experience of Stage Gate processes in nuclear or similarly regulated environments.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate design rationale clearly.
- Working knowledge of Mathcad Prime, IBM Doors, and through-life design considerations is desirable.
- Good stakeholder management with experience working across multiple engineering disciplines.
