Overview
This is a 12 month fixed term post for general paediatrics and neonates based at Warrington Hospital. The post is at tier 1 junior doctor grade and will work with other 8 doctors in the tier 1 rota.
The appointee will see paediatric patients referred to the Paediatric Assessment Unit (PAU) from A&E and primary care, manage paediatric inpatients on the Paediatric ward and on PAU, review newborn babies on the postnatal ward (including NIPE examination) and attend high‑risk deliveries. Junior paediatricians do not have responsibilities on the neonatal unit but support the on‑call team during admissions and emergencies.
The post is suitable for general paediatric training for a career in paediatrics, general practice or emergency medicine.
Responsibilities- Work as part of the ST1-2 rota (1:9, full shift) and participate in the on‑call rota for general paediatrics and neonatology.
- Form an integral part of the Paediatrics clinical rota, providing medical cover on the Paediatric wards and the Neonatal unit.
- Be involved with the admission and assessment of Paediatric emergencies.
- Contribute to regular ward rounds and seek senior advice when deemed appropriate.
- Participate in regular teaching programmes for postgraduates and undergraduates.
- Engage in Child Protection work as required, following local guidelines.
- Cooperate with all levels of management, including at CBU and senior management levels.
- All consultants undertake resident evening hours, weekend/bank holiday day hours, followed by on‑call non‑resident hours.
- The post is suitable for general paediatric training for a career in paediatrics, general practice or emergency medicine.
- Middle grade specialty trainee available to support the tier 1 team.
- Candidate will join the on‑call rota for general paediatrics and neonatology.
- There will be regular ward rounds and supervision as appropriate.
