Cardiologist, Healthcare Consultant
Overview
The post is a consultant post based at Warrington Hospital. Applications are invited for a Consultant Cardiologist with full training with a specialist interest in pacing and arrhythmia. The appointee will support the development of our services and will contribute to acute cardiology and the provision of outpatient clinics with sub specialty sessions in pacing and arrhythmia. There is a 1:7 commitment to the cardiology on-call including a "Consultant of the Week" and 7 day working to ensure all unwell cardiology patients are reviewed on a daily basis.
Responsibilities- Deliver high quality, patient-centered care at Warrington Hospital.
- Contribute to general cardiology services, including outpatient clinics and inpatient ward work as consultant of the week and by reviewing outlying patients with cardiac conditions.
- Shared responsibility for day-to-day management of the service and participation in strategic planning.
- Attend and actively participate in MDT meetings and directorate clinical governance activity across Cardiology Services.
- Teaching and training resident doctors and participating in continuing medical education.
- Support development of services and contribute to acute cardiology and outpatient clinics with pacing and arrhythmia sessions.
- Essential:
Full GMC registration;
Membership of Royal College of Physicians (CST general medicine/acute medicine or specialty medicine); CCT in Cardiology or equivalent. - Desirable:
Higher degree; ALS. - Essential
Skills:
Highly motivated with a proactive attitude; high standard of clinical skill in cardiology; ability to manage diagnostic uncertainty in acute cardiology; leadership and teamwork; advanced communication; enthusiasm for education; involvement in clinical audit; good knowledge of clinical governance; effective leadership and organisational skills; basic IT skills. - Desirable
Skills:
Accreditation in echo modalities (BSE/EACVI/ASE); pacing accreditation (BHRS/EHRA); research activity related to acute cardiac care. - Experience:
Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate staff; high level of clinical cardiology experience; understanding of current cardiology issues and NHS context; involvement in management/administrative roles; ability to work across professions.
- Ability to manage high-pressure clinical situations; satisfactory DBS disclosure.
- Caring, honest, reliable; ability to foster good working relationships; willingness to share clinical and non-clinical duties with consultant colleagues; commitment to improving core clinical service for cardiology patients; ability to work an 8-hour shift on a busy cardiology unit; willingness to work across both sites within the Trust.
