The Waldorf School of DuPage is seeking a warm, enthusiastic, and purpose-driven First Grade Teacher to take up and form a new class. The ideal candidate brings joy to their teaching, a strong sense of responsibility for the children in their care, and a genuine commitment to partnering with parents and the school in support of each child’s growth. This role calls for a teacher who values relationship-based education, Waldorf pedagogy, and open, respectful communication with families and colleagues.
We are especially interested in a candidate who looks forward to growing with a class and stewarding its social, academic, and developmental journey over the years ahead.
Job Duties
- Provide developmentally appropriate instruction, supervision, and care for first grade students in alignment with Waldorf pedagogy.
- Plan and deliver curriculum, prepare student assessments and reports, and maintain accurate classroom and student records.
- Foster a warm, orderly, and well-maintained classroom environment and participate in the daily rhythm of the school.
- Build respectful, professional, and collaborative relationships with parents through clear, timely communication, conferences, and class meetings.
- Advocate for individual student needs and collaborate with the educational Care Group to implement agreed-upon supports and strategies.
- Demonstrate a commitment to anti-racist education, equity, and inclusion, and engage in reflective practice and ongoing learning in these areas.
- Work collegially with faculty, administration, and staff; attend faculty meetings, professional development days, and required school events.
- Engage in ongoing professional growth, including Waldorf teacher training or continuing education as appropriate.
- Confident using Google Workspace and able to learn and adapt to other digital tools.
- Support school festivals, committees, outreach, and admissions-related activities, and serve as an ambassador for the school community.
- Uphold all safety and security protocols to protect students, faculty, staff, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution
- Completion of a Waldorf teacher training program or a commitment to pursue Waldorf certification
- Prior Waldorf classroom teaching experience
- Experience in other elementary or primary teaching settings
Salary range: $46,000 - $54,000
