Overview
Fauquier County is currently seeking an experienced individual for Chief of Planning. A large rural county in the Virginia Piedmont, Fauquier has a long established planning philosophy of developing thriving service districts surrounded by active agriculture. The County also seeks to preserve environmental and historic resources while encouraging economic development. This position is involved in a great variety of challenging cases and projects.
ResponsibilitiesThe Chief of Planning is responsible for the management and operation of the Planning Division within the Department of Community Development. The Planning Division handles all aspects of the County’s Comprehensive Plan and the coordination of review for current development projects requiring legislative approval. The Chief of Planning also provides oversight for all historic preservation, transportation and natural resource planning, and urban development/design work.
QualificationsThe successful applicant must have a thorough knowledge of the principals and practices of urban planning and be well-versed in traditional town planning and design. Minimum requirements include a Bachelor’s degree in urban planning or related field, with a Master’s degree preferred, at least eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience including land development review, urban design and future planning and community outreach.
Good oral and written communication skills and supervisory experience required.
Salary range is from $84,773 to $152,592 with salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
