Environmental Construction Specialist to work on Electric Utility Construction Projects. This is a field position; candidates must have experience with environmental compliance in relation to land clearing and linear construction projects. WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Regulatory Compliance
- Provides Environmental Compliance and construction oversight on transmission Site Development and Linear Transmission Line construction projects for Duke Energy.
- Provides Environmental Oversight and compliance/inspections associated with Transmission Capital Projects and the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) and Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP).
- Ensure compliance with laws and regulations for wetland access, protected species, wood and debris disposal, site control and soil disturbance.
- Ensure that all field operations are in compliance with permits, including road use permits, natural resource protection act permits, Corps of Engineers permits, etc.
- Document pre- and post-work field conditions to ensure sites are in compliance with permits and environmental regulations and there are no conditions that require mitigation or restoration.
Field Operations
- Performs all required erosion and sediment, stormwater management and pollution prevention inspections for applicable construction projects.
- Interprets complex plans and drawings.
- Performs duties in a manner that promotes and maintains good public relations.
Crew Oversight
- Attends pre-construction meetings, constructability meetings, and status meetings as directed.
- Manages and oversees site development crews; provides oversight for sediment and erosion control or Best Management Practice (BMP) contractors to ensure all measures are installed as per the approved plan.
- Ensures wetlands and sensitive areas’ identification are in place and crews are aware before entering such areas.
Stakeholder & Public Relations
- Monitors and reports to Project Management on the status of construction units estimated and actuals billed to date of project.
- Communicate daily with the utility client, contractors, landowners, and the public.
Subject Matter Expert Consulting
- Assist in developing recommendations on future Right-of-Way (R-O-W) maintenance requirements.
Additional Responsibilities
- Drive a company vehicle safely to work locations.
- Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
WHAT YOU NEED TO HAVE:
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Construction Management, Building Science, or related fields.
- 1-5 years’ experience in Site Development work, permitting utility construction.
- Strong understanding of NPDES CGP SWPPP implementation and inspections.
- FSESCI certification for Florida (or equivalent) as applicable.
- Strong understanding of NPDES CGP and SWPPP for NCDEQ and associated permits; experience in the Carolinas is preferred.
- Stormwater/Erosion Control Inspector training credentials (CESSWI, CEPSCI, or equivalent) for applicable regions (Carolinas and Indiana mentioned).
- Desire to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and terrain.
- Strong public relations skills and ability to interface with the public.
- Willingness to work alone.
