Position: Dispatcher, Full Time

Responsibilities

  • Dispatcher – emergency and non‑emergency communications, operator, radio communication and monitoring, police dispatch, and civilian personnel dispatch.
    • Receives emergency and non‑emergency requests by telephone, radio, and in person.
    • Monitors radio communication on multiple frequencies and can respond promptly and appropriately.
    • Coordinates and dispatches on‑ and off‑campus law enforcement, fire, safety, emergency aid personnel, and other resources to respond to calls and alarms.
    • Utilizes Computer‑Assisted Dispatch (CAD) to take initial information for police reports, assign officers, track progress, and document actions.
    • Operates a multiple line telephone system including Telephony (TTY).
    • Dispatches Safe Team, Parking Enforcement, and other personnel as requested.
  • Dispatch Office Manager – equipment maintenance, monitoring of alarm and other systems, key check‑in/out, lost and found reports, operation of phone lines, monitoring department lobby.
    • Remains knowledgeable of department and university policy and procedure; responds tactfully, clearly, concisely, and appropriately to inquiries.
    • Issues keys, maintains records of check‑in/out procedures.
    • Prepares lost and recovered property reports.
    • Acts as point of contact for information between law enforcement agencies and the public.
    • Acts as receptionist for all three divisions of Public Safety and University inquiries, directing them to responsible offices.
    • Monitors security and fire alarm systems; monitors campus video security system.
    • Remains knowledgeable of campus and Warrensburg to direct personnel and the public to appropriate locations.
    • Co‑ordinates with vendors and campus resources to complete work orders and maintain departmental equipment.
  • Information and Data Retrieval Specialist – operates MULES/NCIC, retrieves and enters information from federal, state, local, and university databases.
    • Inputs and retrieves data into MULES, linked to DOR, NCIC, and NLETS.
    • Stays knowledgeable of technology changes; uses various computer programs and data sources to retrieve information in emergency and non‑emergency situations.
  • Mass Communications Operator – alerts campus community by email, text, siren, and PA systems.
    • Initiates emergency siren and alerting systems in buildings and around campus as needed.
    • Send mass text messages and email as appropriate.
Education and Experience
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 year police dispatch experience preferred.
  • MULES certification preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • Lifting (weight) – 20 lbs.
  • Sitting for long periods of time.
