Overview

Description Protects students, faculty, staff, visitors and University of Central Missouri property. Officers enforce state statutes, city ordinances, University rules and regulations, and policies of University of Central Missouri. Helps to ensure that University of Central Missouri maintains an atmosphere that is supportive of the educational process.

Responsibilities
  • Provide protection and ensure the safety of all individuals on campus.
  • Patrol assigned areas and conduct security checks of all University owned property, including campus buildings, residence halls, parking lots, and remote locations (Pertle Springs, the farm and the airport). Officers have keys to all University buildings and departments.
  • Authorize and provide entrance to University property during and after regular business hours. Entrance after business hours requires the officer to independently evaluate each situation.
  • Enforce traffic ordinances, maintain traffic control, and investigate traffic accidents throughout campus.
  • Handle pedestrian traffic flow for safety of students between class sessions.
  • Activate special security procedures during periods of University shutdown.
Identify and Enforce
  • Identify violations of University regulations, municipal ordinance violations, or state laws, and take appropriate action to remedy the situation, including advisement, conflict resolution, or possible arrest. This action is generally initiated by the officer on site.
Hazards and Safety
  • Identify safety and/or traffic hazards and take appropriate action to remedy the situation, including notification to other authorities (fire department, emergency services) and issuance of tickets.
  • Conduct follow-up investigations into violations as requested by supervisor, and prepare accurate and detailed reports as needed.
Maintenance and Operations
  • Maintain state license through mandatory training and continuing education.
  • Maintain all assigned equipment in good working condition.
  • Supervise SAFE Team Members, parking enforcement personnel in the absence of the Shift Sergeant.
  • Render appropriate first aid to victims as needed.
  • Deliver emergency messages to faculty, staff, or students.
  • Present crime prevention programs to the University community.
Campus Events
  • Provide protection and crowd control at University functions, including athletic events, concerts, and special events. Provide protection for visiting dignitaries.
Collaboration
  • Assist other police and public safety agencies as needed.
Education and Experience

Education

  • Completion of at least 60 college credit hours is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or related field preferred.

Experience

  • Missouri Police Officer Licensed or currently enrolled in the police academy;

Physical/Environmental Factors

  • Lifting (weight) – 50 lbs
  • Long periods of time in patrol car
  • Potential life-threatening situations

This position requires a physical and psychological evaluation after a conditional offer is accepted.
