Job Summary
As a Nurse Midwife, you will be responsible for the assessment, plan, implementation, and evaluation of nurse midwifery care delivered to gynecologic, antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum, and newborn patients. Responsible for performing physical exams, collecting, and documenting data, managing labor and delivery, conducting diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, ordering and scheduling laboratory studies and professional consultations and prescribing appropriate interventions and medications.
EssentialFunctions
- Complies with all HIPAA and OSHA regulations and policies.
- Provides direct clinical services and management of mothers and babies as defined in the standing orders, policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Obtains patient health histories and completes physical examinations.
- Documents findings noting pertinent normal and abnormal findings. Orders and interprets appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests.
- Explains the necessity, preparation, nature, and anticipated effects of procedure(s) to patient, family, staff, and healthcare learners.
- Performs approved therapeutic procedures based upon patient’s clinical status and documents patient preparation and response to procedure(s).
- Formulates and implements prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, newborn and interconnectional care.
- Provides patient and family education related to prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, newborn and interconnectional care.
- Assesses patient for change in status and institutes appropriate interventions. Initiates necessary emergency interventions to stabilize patient.
- Collaborates with physician and nursing colleagues and documents in medical records.
- Administers medications and injections in compliance with state law and NOMS/hospital guidelines.
- BSN, MSN Required.
- Successful completion of an approved Nurse Midwife program.
- Current State of Ohio APRN license with a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) Designation.
- Knowledge of professional nursing theory, clinical practice standards, normal maternal/fetal growth and development and requirements of nurse midwifery practice.
- Knowledge of how to use medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care.
- Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish/maintain a safe work environment.
- Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of professional nurse midwifery to provide ongoing patient care.
- Skill in taking medical histories to assess medical condition and interpret findings.
- Ability to maintain quality control standards.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
