School District Position Description Position Title: Boiler Mechanic
Classification: Teamsters Local 429
Reports To: Director of Facilities and/or their designee
Hours: Variable Hours
Position Goal: To ensure that all boilers are operating safely and efficiently.
Position Rate: $27.69 per hour
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Other duties may be assigned.
The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to the following fundamental duties:
1. Maintains and repairs boilers and burners.
2. Opens, cleans and prepares boilers for annual inspections.
3. Opens, cleans, repairs, and maintains all burners in proper operating condition.
4. Reports any/all unsafe conditions to supervisor.
5. Maintains all condensation pumps and condensation systems in proper operating condition.
6. Cleans, maintains, and repairs all boiler chemical feed systems as necessary.
7. Repairs, replaces, and lubricates all heating pumps on hot water heating systems.
8. Replaces or repacks main valves at boiler which may be leaking with plumbers as necessary.
9. Works with plumbers, electricians, and Johnson Control personnel as required to maintain DHW systems.
10. Works with plumbers as necessary to locate, replace or repair faulty steam traps or heating system leaks.
11. Tests the operation of burners, associated electrical systems, safety devices such as flame failure safety, low water cut-offs, C02, 02, and smoke levels for efficiency %.
12. Maintains proper chemical levels as required and instructed by current chemical company personnel in boilers, closed systems, air conditioning systems.
13. Consults with outside contractors for major boiler repairs such as retubing, gas train replacement, etc. gas train replacement, etc.
14. Makes daily check of EMS printout sheets and be capable of operating EMS computers.
15. Set up annual inspections for all equipment.
16. Reads blueprints.
17. No extra fees for permits from city or state.
18. Performs other related duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee. This job description does not constitute an exhaustive list of responsibilities and management may revise it at any time.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
:
High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED). Experience working with boilers required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Valid Pennsylvania Operator’s License and City of Reading Trades License.
