The job of WCS Plumber was established for the purpose/s of maintaining plumbing systems to provide comfort, sanitation and safety within facilities; providing information and documentation of activities; ensuring that assignments are completed in a safe, proper and timely manner; and directing assigned workers as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS

Community College and/or Vocational degree with study in job-related area. Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent. Must be able to meet physical demands of the working environment. Must posses Journeyman's card.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Coordinates with administration and other trades for the purpose of completing projects/work orders efficiently.
  • Diagnoses problems and/or failures in plumbing/irrigation systems for the purpose of identifying activities necessary to maintain equipment and systems.
  • Estimates materials and/or equipment needed to compete work projects for the purpose of ensuring timely completion of projects.
  • Installs plumbing systems and fixtures (e.g. hot water heaters, drinking fountains, etc.) for the purpose of providing comfort, sanitation and safety within facilities.
  • Monitors water usage, chemical effectiveness, fertilization, etc. for the purpose of ensuring that administrative, local, state, and federal regulations, policies and requirements are met.
  • Prepares documentation for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
  • Procures equipment, supplies and materials for the purpose of maintaining availability of required items and completing jobs efficiently.
  • Renovates plumbing systems for the purpose of complying with building codes and meeting accessibility/functionality requirements of students, staff and the public.
  • Repairs school site plumbing, equipment and components (e.g. gas regulator, kitchen equipment, etc.) for the purpose of providing renovation and preventive maintenance of plumbing systems.
  • Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
  • Trains assigned personnel for the purpose of developing professional trade and safety awareness skills.
  • Transports various items (e.g. tools, equipment, supplies, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at job site.
  • Assists other personnel for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
  • Directs personnel as assigned for the purpose of maximizing the efficiency of the work force and meeting shift requirements.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Applicants must be able to meet the physical demands of the position. These include, but are not limited to: significant lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling; frequent climbing and balancing; significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and signifcant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 10% sitting, 30% walking and 60% standing.
