Overview

The Board of Trustees of Macomb Community College invites confidential applications and nominations for the seventh president of the College. The current president, James O. Sawyer IV, will retire at the end of the current fiscal year, June 30, 2026. The successful candidate will build upon the accomplishments the College has made under the institution's current leadership and through the outcomes of its 2025 Strategic Plan.

Macomb Community College, accredited, two‑year, comprehensive community college, is the largest in Michigan. It offers more than 150 degree programs and certificates across three campuses, covering 400 acres and including a Michigan Technical Education Center (M‑TEC). The college’s mission is to deliver inclusive, innovative education that serves the community and enhances workforce readiness.

Responsibilities

The President, reporting to the Board of Trustees, serves as Chief Executive Officer and oversees daily administration and operation. Responsibilities include supporting the college’s vision, mission, strategic goals and values; advancing the strategic agenda; and providing strategic focus for all aspects of institution operations.

Qualifications
  • An appropriate terminal degree from a regionally accredited institution or an equivalent in work or professional experience.
  • Significant and progressive administrative and leadership experience in higher education, preferably at a community college.
  • Financial acumen to address budget realities in the evolving higher education and funding landscape.
  • Understanding of technology’s role and the impact of Artificial Intelligence on teaching, learning, and operations.
