- Responsibility for body and exterior parts (molded plastic, painted/plated plastics, steel parts, and lighting components) as described in the Job Description.
- Serve as the technical liaison between purchasing, product engineering, internal manufacturing, and external suppliers.
- Resolve supplier manufacturing issues, implement advanced quality planning systems, and provide technical support throughout the lifecycle of a particular commodity.
- Assure supplier understanding and compliance with APQP processes and product PPAP submission and approval requirements.
- Review and approve supplier quality plans for new component parts and assemblies for new vehicle and/or powertrain programs.
- Review supplier manufacturing processes and quality systems.
- Implement and monitor supplier part qualification and certification processes.
- Determine root cause of supplier manufacturing problems and implement timely, effective, and efficient quality resolutions.
- Improve quality performance of suppliers by conducting onsite workshops, providing technical assistance to develop a robust quality system, or other support as required.
- Provide technical assistance during supplier launch, change‑over, and ongoing production activities.
- Strong knowledge of automotive interior, exterior, body, chassis, electrical or powertrain quality, manufacturing, and engineering functions.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Manufacturing Quality processes.
- Knowledge of Manufacturing and Tool Engineering processes.
- Knowledge of Quality Systems Planning (APQP), including PPAP.
- Ability to perform statistical problem solving (Red X, DFSS, DMAIC).
- Extensive experience and knowledge of the specific assigned commodity/product.
- Highly motivated with demonstrated leadership capability.
- Proficient in print reading and interpretation, part measurement, gage design and function.
- Knowledge of geometric design and tolerancing (GD&T).
- Knowledge of manufacturing and assembly plant processes, procedures, tooling, equipment, and facilities.
- Knowledge of probability, statistical quality control, and design of experiments.
- Investigate quality problems and apply sound technical judgment to develop solutions.
- Manage multiple projects and lead diverse cross‑functional teams simultaneously.
- High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to travel up to 50% (daily commutable and overnight combined).
Education/Experience
Manufacturing Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related technical field required.
- Master’s degree in Business Administration or Engineering preferred.
- Technical and Quality Certifications preferred.
- 5‑7 years of experience required.
- Ideal if this person has experience SQMS.
- Ideal if they have SPPs (Supplier Practical Problem Solving System).
