The primary purpose of this position is to install, modify, test, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair electric power controlling equipment and/or distribution lines.

  • Installs, modifies, tests, repairs, and maintains transformers, converters, regulators, cables, switches, circuit breakers, mechanical and electronic systems, and other circuit elements found in substations.
  • Installs, modifies, connects, inspects, and repairs overhead and underground electrical distribution lines.
  • Troubleshoots distribution circuits and generating and controlling equipment.
  • Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment.
  • Uses and maintains various hand and power tools and test equipment such as oscillators, meggers, phase sticks, phase rotation meters, digital test equipment, and cable locating and fault finding equipment.

Other Significant Facts Pertaining To The Job

  • Emergency overtime may be required.
  • Position requires the ability to discern colors and contrast.
  • May be required to possess a valid operator’s license in order to drive a motor vehicle to and from work sites. AND/OR, may be required to procure a government operator’s permit or obtain a commercial driver’s license to drive and/or operate special electrical repair trucks and/or obtain a flight line drivers license.
  • Visually checks the work of contractors for compliance with contract specifications on new construction.
  • The physical requirements of this position as determined by the manager are:
    The employee frequently performs moderately heavy lifting, pulling, and carrying of equipment and material weighing up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds) and occasionally, lifts or pulls heavy cables and equipment weighing more than 23 kilograms (50 pounds) with the help of weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. Work aloft on poles, at ground level, and in ground trenches or manholes.

    Work requires bending, stooping, climbing, and standing for long periods. Must be able to distinguish colors and shades of colors. At times, works in awkward positions and restricted spaces where coordination of hands, legs, and body are needed to perform tasks.
  • The employee must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
  • This is a key position. This posiiton is designated as a key position IAW AFI 36‑507. Duties of this position are essential to the accomplishment of wartime/contingency operations. Incumbents of key positions must be removed from their military recall status if alternative for filling of the position during an emergency are not available.
