The Controls & Electrical Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving electrical, controls, and automation systems within a manufacturing environment. This role has a strong electrical and PLC focus while also supporting mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and general maintenance activities as part of a multicraft maintenance team.
The ideal candidate is hands‑on, safety‑focused, and comfortable working across automated equipment, control panels, and production machinery to minimize downtime and support reliable plant operations.
Key Responsibilities- Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair electrical systems, controls, and automation equipment.
- Diagnose and resolve issues with PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, sensors, and industrial networks.
- Perform electrical troubleshooting on motors, drives, relays, contractors, and control panels.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, ladder logic, and technical documentation.
- Support installation, modification, and startup of new equipment and automation upgrades.
- Assist with PLC logic changes, I/O troubleshooting, and HMI updates under engineering guidance.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on production equipment.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems as needed.
- Support troubleshooting of conveyors, packaging equipment, robotics, and material handling systems.
- Respond to equipment breakdowns to minimize downtime and support production schedules.
- Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO), safety, and electrical safety procedures at all times.
- Document maintenance activities, repairs, and improvement opportunities.
- Collaborate with maintenance, engineering, and operations teams to drive continuous improvement.
- 3+ years of experience in industrial maintenance with a strong electrical or controls focus.
- Hands‑on experience troubleshooting PLC‑controlled equipment.
- Strong electrical troubleshooting skills (AC/DC, motors, sensors, control circuits).
- Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Experience working in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Comfortable performing both electrical and mechanical maintenance tasks.
- Strong problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Willingness to work off‑shifts, weekends, or overtime as needed.
- Experience with PLC platforms such as Allen‑Bradley, Siemens, or similar.
- Experience with HMIs, VFDs, and industrial communication networks.
- Electrical certification, journeyman license, or technical degree a plus.
- Experience supporting packaging, processing, or automated production equipment.
- Robotics or servo motion experience is a plus.
- Hands‑on role with exposure to automation and controls systems.
