Job Description
Houston Accelerated (HASP) Math TeacherThe Houston Accelerated Scholars Program (HASP) seeks an exceptionally strong mathematics instructor to teach advanced coursework for a highly selective cohort of students. This position supports the district’s most accelerated math pathway and may include both Advanced Placement and college-level instruction.
Potential Course Assignments- Honors Advanced Algebra
- AP Precalculus
- AP Calculus AB
- AP Calculus BC
- Honors History of Mathematics
- Multi-variable Calculus
- Linear Algebra
- Valid Georgia certification in Mathematics (or eligibility)
- Master’s degree in Mathematics or closely related field
- Ability to meet credentialing requirements for potential dual enrollment partnership
- Demonstrated expertise in advanced mathematical content
- Capacity to teach college-level mathematics with depth and rigor
- Experience with AP, honors, gifted, or dual enrollment coursework preferred
- Ability to build strong academic relationships with high-achieving students
- Willingness to collaborate with district leadership and post-secondary partners
- Teaches at an appropriate instructional level.
- Provides teacher-focused and student-focused content development.
- Provides initial focus, content emphasis and linking, and lesson summaries
- Assesses and encourages student progress.
- Monitors student progress.
- Responds to adequate and inadequate student performances.
- Supports students.
- Handles non-instructional tasks efficiently and uses instructional time appropriately.
- Maintains effective physical setting for instruction.
- Maintains appropriate student behavior in the classroom.
- Follows professional practices consistent with school system, and state policies in working with students, student records, parents, and colleagues.
- Interacts in a professional manner with staff, students, and parents.
- Facilitates home‑school communication by such means as holding conferences, telephoning, and sending written communications.
- Maintains confidentiality of students and student records.
- Works cooperatively with school administrators, special support personnel, colleagues, and parents.
- Complies with school, system, and state administrative regulations and Board of Education policies.
- Conducts assigned classes at the times scheduled.
- Enforces regulations concerning student conduct and discipline.
- Provides adequate information, plans, and materials for substitute teacher.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and appropriate records and files reports promptly.
- Attends and participates in faculty meetings and other assigned meetings and activities according to school policy.
- Complies with conditions as stated in contract.
- Demonstrates professional practices in teaching.
- Models correct use of language, oral and written.
- Demonstrates accurate and up-to-date knowledge of content.
- Maintains lesson plans as required by school policy.
- Assigns reasonable tasks and homework to students.
- Acts in a professional manner and assumes responsibility for the total school program, its safety and good order.
- Takes precautions to protect records, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Assumes responsibility for supervising students in out-of-class settings.
- Maintains professional relationships.
- Performs any other duties as requested by the Principal, Superintendent of Schools, and Board of Education.
- Education and/or
Experience:
Must have a Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, in Education. Advance degree a plus. - Certificate or License
Required:
Valid Georgia professional teaching certificate in the assigned teaching field. - Language
Skills:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students. - Mathematical
Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole number, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. - Reasoning Ability:
