Summary and relationship to the curriculum: This position provides specialized instruction for students with disabilities to achieve success in the educational setting in accordance with the system’s mission.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Follows professional practices consistent with school and system policies in working with students, students’ records, parents and colleagues.
- Facilitates home‑school communication by holding conferences, telephoning, and sending written communication.
- Works cooperatively with school administrators, special support personnel, colleagues, and parents.
- Develops, implements, monitors and reviews the Individualized Education Program (IEP) of each student on the caseload, at least annually.
- Complies with school, system, and state administrative regulations and Board of Education policies.
- Demonstrates professional practices in teaching.
- Models correct use of language, oral and written.
- Demonstrates accurate and up-to-date knowledge of content.
- Implements designated curriculum as states in IEP.
- Maintains lesson plans as required by school policy.
- Assigns reasonable tasks and homework to students.
- Manages the learning environment: uses time efficiently, maintains an effective and safe physical setting for instruction, and maintains appropriate student behavior in the classroom.
- Collects and maintains accurate records on students on caseload.
- Performs any other duties as assigned by Principal, Director of Special Education, Assistant Superintendent for Student Services, Superintendent of Schools, and Board of Education.

Experience:
Must have a Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, in Education. Advanced degree a plus. - Certificate or License
Required:
Valid Georgia professional teaching certificate in the assigned teaching field. - Language
Skills:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations to students. - Mathematical
Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. - Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to apply sound educational principles to various classroom situations.
- Technical Ability: Must have considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office Products.

Skills:
Must be capable of interacting effectively with administrators, teachers, staff members, students, parents, and the general public using tactful and helpful customer service.
Must serve as a role model to students. Desirable personal characteristics are required. Appropriate dress and grooming consistent with established standards required. Must be at work on time. Must meet attendance standards. Must conduct activities safely.
