The Portering Department is looking to recruit into various General Porter positions within our dynamic and friendly team. The Department provides an efficient and timely portering service to Wards and Departments as required and to meet the needs of Patients, Staff, etc.
For this role you will need to have an understanding of the special character of the NHS service, which is to care for patients and visitors often in pain or distress. You will need to be physically fit as you may be required to run to cardiac arrest calls or maternity emergencies.
Main duties of the jobPorters move around the hospital site, transporting patients, specimens, equipment and post. You will need to be physically fit to respond to emergencies such as cardiac arrest calls or assist in evacuation of patients. Successful applicants must have communication skills and an understanding of English and have basic IT skills.
All shortlisted applicants will undergo fitness tests (beep test in the gym with a pass mark of
4), literacy, a wheelchair pushing test, a basic literacy test and a face to face interview on the recruitment day. There will be 2 recruitment days (03 & 04 March 2026). Shortlisted candidates will be required to attend one of the two dates.
PLEASE NOTE:
If you do not pass the beep test, we will not be progressing you to the next stages of the recruitment day.

Person Specification Qualifications and Training- An understanding of, and an ability to communicate in English

- 1 year hospital/NHS experience
