An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Receptionist to join the friendly and dedicated team at Upper Halliford Medical Centre. In this role, you will be the first point of contact for patients and visitors, providing an efficient and welcoming reception service both in person and over the phone.
We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills, confidence, and a proactive attitude. You should be computer literate, hardworking, eager to learn, and ready to take initiative. Previous experience in a GP practice is desirable but not essential.

Main duties of the jobAs a Receptionist, you will be the friendly first point of contact for patients and visitors, helping them access the services they need. You will support the smooth running of the practice by managing appointments, handling enquiries, and assisting with administrative tasks. The role offers variety, patient interaction, and the opportunity to be an essential part of a welcoming, supportive team.
About usWe are a small practice with a list size of around 4500 patients. We have 1 GP and 2 Locum doctors, Healthcare Assistant, Nurse Practitioner,1 Pharmacist, and a stable friendly and efficient administration team.
Job responsibilitiesPrimary Duties:
Greet and assist patients and visitors, providing guidance and support as needed
Manage the appointment system, including booking, rescheduling, and follow-ups
Respond to enquiries in person, by phone, or by email in a professional manner
Enter and update patient information accurately on the computer system
Assist patients with payments for private services and issue receipts
Process new patient registrations and temporary cover documentation
Support clinical and administrative staff with general tasks as required
Maintain a tidy, organized, and professional reception area
Ensure security procedures are followed at the start and end of the day
Additional Duties:
Assist with scanning, filing, and other document management tasks
Support colleagues during staff absences or periods of high workload
Follow practice policies on confidentiality, health & safety, and safeguarding
Contribute to continuous improvement and efficient service delivery within the team
Person Specification Qualifications- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Experience of working in a fast-paced role
- NVQ in Business Administration or equivalent
- Experience of working in a GP practice
- Experience in a reception or administrative role
