Job Description Summary
The Nurse Practitioner will provide confidential, evidence-based, trauma-informed, high quality, timely, direct medical care that is respectful to all individuals. With a strong commitment and respect for diversity, this position supports our students in achieving optimum personal and academic success.
Essential Duties Clinical Care- Provide direct clinical care, treatment recommendations, prescriptions, and thorough, timely documentation according to practice guidelines and while adhering to evidence-based, trauma-informed practices.
- Triage patients with acute urgent medical situations promptly and refer as needed for appropriate emergencies or follow-up care.
- Provide close follow-up on all patients, ensuring ethical, confidentiality and risk management guidelines are followed in encounters with patients and/or their families.
- Provide unbiased, evidence-based and support for students seeking PEP, PrEP, gender affirming health care, sexual and reproductive health counseling, including options counseling.
- Refer to outside medical and mental health specialists as appropriate and follow-up as needed.
- Consult with the Director, Associate Director and clinical colleagues appropriately.
- Maintain clear and respectful communication with patients, recognizing and supporting differences while providing culturally competent health care.
- Collaborate respectfully with other key offices on campus, including but not limited to the Counseling Center, Bentley Plus, University Police, Residential Center, and the Dean s Office when appropriate and indicated. Notify the Director of any significant medical, psychological or high-risk concerns.
- Ensure clinical skills and medical knowledge are maintained with up to date medical best practices and participate actively in regular clinical case conferences.
- Additional responsibilities as required.
- Participate in activities related to the Health Center s accredited status by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC).
- Represent the Health Center throughout campus through participation in campus events, as required.
- Collaborate with diverse departments and student organizations to design and implement health and wellbeing initiatives for students.
- Participate in significant campus events, including orientation sessions, residence life training, and other presentations or programs.
- As needed, work independently to solve problems, look for opportunities to assume responsibility, take thoughtful risks, and effectively act on new and ongoing initiatives, objectives, and solutions to gain sought-after results.
- Anticipate and effectively manage change and work to foster an attitude of flexibility, teamwork and optimism in the Health Center.
- Master s Degree from college or university from a Nurse Practitioner program is required. Experience with in college health, internal medicine, primary care, or urgent care is strongly preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills and experience with adolescent/young adult patient population.
- Proficiency with electronic medical records and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Active license through the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing as a Massachusetts Advanced Practice Nurse (or ability to obtain).
- Current National Board Certification as an Adult or Family Nurse Practitioner.
- Current CPR/AED certification.
- Active DEA and Mass Controlled Substance Registration (or ability to obtain).
- Demonstrated interest and experience with promoting social justice and working with marginalized, under-represented and under-served groups.
- Ability to anticipate and embrace change; demonstrate willingness to achieve, acquire, and utilize new skills and challenging tasks; and maintain a positive and flexible attitude in changing conditions.
- Prolonged periods of sitting, with intermittent walking and standing in an office setting.
- Regular use of computers, printers, scanners, and other standard office equipment.
- Occasional need to respond rapidly in emergencies, such as running to assist a student or client.
- Routine use of clinical tools such as microscopes, vaginal speculums, stethoscopes, forceps, and tweezers.
- Regular handling of bandages, dressings, otoscopes, splints, crutches, ophthalmoscopes, vacutainer tubes, needles, syringes, and medication vials.
- Familiarity with these tools is required to support both clinical functions and evaluations.
- Availability beyond standard business hours for campus events and meetings, including evenings and weekends.
- Occasional travel to attend student events, off-campus seminars, meetings, and conferences.
- Daily exposure to communicable diseases through direct patient contact and handling of biological specimens (e.g., blood, urine, vomitus).
- Strict adherence to infection control protocols and the use of personal protective equipment is mandatory.
