Apellis seeks a collaborative team member for the role of Senior Manager, U.S. Patient Advocacy. This position will be responsible for executing and operationalizing the patient advocacy and engagement strategy as a key member of the Patient Advocacy team, as part of Medical Strategy.

This individual should be familiar with the biotech/pharma industry and be experienced in implementing creative solutions for how to partner with the patient community to achieve shared goals. Sponsor ships and will work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams to ensure successful execution across the giving lifecycle. They will also be responsible for championing and supporting the integration of the patient voice into the everyday operations of the function and for gathering and synthesizing critical patient insights to inform strategic decision making.

This role will report to the Senior Director, U.S. Patient Advocacy.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Support and implement comprehensive patient advocacy and engagement strategy, ensuring that Apellis maintains strong relationships with patient advocacy groups that focus on vision loss.
  • Operationalize innovative approaches to partnering with patient advocacy groups in areas of strategic alignment with a focus on strategic patient engagement, patient‑focused drug development, and patient community strengthening.
  • Support the Advocacy sponsorship and grants process and day‑to‑day execution of policies and systems to effectively execute the giving strategy.
  • Manage, track, and document tangible benefits associated with grants and sponsor ships and ensure timely and compliant deliverables to organizations in advance of conferences and events.
  • Champion the patient voice and experience internally and externally with assigned programs and forums.
  • Work collaboratively with Medical Strategy, Medical Operations, Evidence Generation, Clinical Development, Commercial and Patient Marketing and other cross‑functional partners to share and integrate patient insights that inform patient‑centered projects and initiatives.
  • Support Patient Advocacy team health literacy efforts (e.g., plain‑language summaries).
  • Support and coordinate patient advocacy focus groups and related advisory boards; ensure compliance with all internal and external guidelines.
  • Work with Legal Department and Finance business partners on patient advisor contracts and coordinate compensation.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and reporting related to patient engagement activities.
Education & Experience
  • BS/BA; MSW and related degrees a plus.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry with at least 2 years in patient advocacy roles or at least 5 years with patient advocacy organizations that support patients living with vision loss.
  • Experience of building relationships with patient advocacy groups, consistently reflecting a high degree of professionalism, sensitivity, and confidentiality.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong planning and organization skills with the ability to set priorities effectively and efficiently and manage multiple work streams and deadlines.
  • Working understanding of the compliance governing patient engagement and interactions, and the drug development process.
  • Demonstrated ability to execute programs and operational plans in a highly regulated environment.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills and an ability to summarize complex medical and scientific information.
  • Collaborative, team‑focused attitude.
Travel Requirements

Up to 30% travel, including events outside of business hours.
