Bookmobile & Outreach Librarian I, Waltham Public Library (Waltham)
The Waltham Public Library wants to be the best publiclibrary in the world and that’s what sets us apartwhen we’re adding to our team. Waltham is a diversecity with a mixed socio-economic group of about 65,000residents. We have a growing population of families withyoung children, 12% of our population are teens and 40% ofour residents speak a language other than English ’re seeking a friendly, adaptive,enthusiastic, service-oriented individual to help serve anurban community within a busy library setting.
We're looking for someone who is self-motivated, cares about accuracy, andcan handle stressful situations with grace and good humor.
Customer service experience is highly valued.
Duties include:
Coordinating Bookmobile visits throughout the City. Outreach to Waltham organizations, including home delivery. Serving the community by locating materials and information via all print and electronic resources, inperson, and on the telephone. Reference Desk duties such asanswering telephones, checking items in and out, registeringpatrons, maintaining patron accounts and other general public service desk duties as assigned. Assisting patrons introubleshooting personal computers and various other typesof electronic equipment.
Responding to patrons’questions and concerns. Interpreting and enforcing librarypolicies. Participating in Minuteman group(s) and other professional development workshops. Referring patrons toother departments and institutions as appropriate. Perform other duties at the discretion of supervisors.
ALA-accredited Master’s Degree in Library Science;more than 1 year computer/electronic database experience; 5years’ professional library experience, preferably with a history of outreach and/or bookmobile service, or anyequivalent combination of education and experience. Valid Driver’s License. Superior customer service. Stronginterest in outreach and social media. Skill with graphicprint design.
Experience with marketing and outreach.
Comfort and confidence in all matters of technology.
Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices oflibrary work. Ability to work with library staff and adiverse general public in a constructive and welcomingmanner. Ability to perform under pressure and resolve problems, including handling emergencies. Excellent communication and instructional abilities. Extremecreativity. The employee must occasionally lift and/or moveup to 30 pounds. Must pass a pre-employment physical withdrug and alcohol screening, a Criminal Offenders Record Information (CORI), and a background check.

Preferred:
Fluency in Spanish, Haitian Creole, Chinese,or Portuguese; social media skills; facility with basic graphic, print, and/or web design; experience with marketing and outreach;
Familiarity with III Sierra software,Microsoft Office & Google Workspace. Familiarity with Canva, Hootsuite, Constant Contact or similar platforms.
