Job Description & How to Apply Below
Chapel Hill – Chauncy Hall School, Waltham, MA

The Chapel Hill-Chauncy Hall School is seeking a creative, progressively minded, and hard-working individual to serve as our Director of College Counseling. As a school that embraces Differentiated Instructional pedagogy, we seek a person who works diligently with all learners and believes, as we do, that it is not “how smart you are” but rather “how you are smart.”

The Director of College Counseling guides a class of approximately 50 students and their families in navigating the postsecondary planning process in partnership with a part-time Assistant Director of College Counseling. This process begins in earnest in the junior year when exploration and education prepare students to apply to colleges that are well matched to their talents and interests. Our students matriculate at a wide variety of institutions around the world, including large universities, liberal arts colleges, institutes of technology, art schools, and specialized programs.

Successful candidates for this position will:

  • Have broad knowledge of colleges in the United States and abroad
  • Understand that college fit far exceeds rankings in importance
  • Have significant experience in the many facets of the college application process including testing, demonstrated interest, specialized recruitment processes, and essay writing
  • Demonstrate strong writing, presentation, and advocacy skills
  • Exhibit skilled relationship building and communication with students, their families, colleagues, and external audiences, including college admission professionals.
  • Center discovery and reflection in the college process for students and families
  • Exemplify willingness to work hard and have fun
  • Possess working knowledge of college counseling tools, such as SCOIR and The Common Application

A bachelor’s degree is a minimum requirement, and previous experience in college counseling or college admissions is required.
