About the role
The Resource, Planning and Capability Manager operates in a dynamic distribution environment, serving as the key liaison between central operations and the Head of Distribution. The role focuses on driving performance through effective resource planning, budget management, and continuous improvement of KPIs. Responsibilities include inspiring and coaching teams to deliver excellent customer service, identifying and developing talent, and ensuring training needs are met.
The manager collaborates with team and shift managers to maintain best-in-class operating procedures, supports site needs, and fosters a culture of helpful and friendly service behaviors. Strong leadership, communication, and strategic planning skills are essential to achieve operational excellence and meet business objectives.

What I do:
- Work in a fast-paced distribution environment where no day is the same.
- Effectively be the point of contact for the central operations reporting into the Head of Distribution.
- Inspire your team to be customer focused to meet the performance metrics and deliver excellent service to our stores.
- Manage a specified budget whilst striving to be results driven through continuous improvement of KPI’s.
- Listen to understand site needs and ensure we are delivering for the business.
- Have a great understanding of how your team is performing and coach, deliver and support Managers to deliver practical actions for improvements.
- Spot talent and provide coaching when needed, ensuring the team are inspired to serve our customers.
- Role model helpful and friendly service behaviours demonstrating enthusiasm for what is right for our customers.
- Plan the team’s training needs and develop those who want to progress within One Stop.
- Have effective everyday conversations to support the team’s performance.
- Collaborate with Team & Shift managers to ensure operating procedures are best in class and focus on providing the service required by our stores.
What the role involves:
- Leading and delivering in the Distribution Centre across all shifts.
- Responsible for ensuring effective planning and organisation of colleagues by working with operational management teams and 3rd party partners to ensure the right number of colleagues are in the right place at the right time across all shifts.
- Delivering and continually evaluating/innovating high quality rota, holiday and skills planning tools.
- Balance warehouse cost drivers to achieve optimal results from cost and service perspectives.
- Work with operational teams to produce and continually review rota patterns in line with KPIs and forecasts.
- Monitor daily One Stop and 3rd party variances to ensure accurate resource requirements are formed daily/weekly and adjusted as required.
- Manage day-to-day Resource, Planning and Capability associates, ensuring accurate information, service delivery, productivity and efficiency against targets.
- Lead warehouse planning cross-functional projects as required.
- Build effective warehouse planning for routines/activity in partnership with the Distribution Centre manager, lead teams, People team and Agency partners.
- Ensure plans are built from 12 and work with operational teams to place resources where needed, communicating with all stakeholders and coordinating resources.
- Manage the Distribution Centres’ holiday management process and ensure each team has information to make informed holiday and time-off decisions.
- Complete root cause analyses where plans do not deliver and implement preventive actions.
- Provide handover to the operational teams after week
-1 and avoid adjusting the plan on the day; focus on root cause analysis and prevent recurrence.
Skills Mix:
- Monitor the Distribution Centre’s skills matrix and optimize the mix of skills required for safe and efficient operations across all shifts.
- Work with operational management teams to proactively plan skills requirements to drive performance and efficiency.
- Build the Team Manager, Shift Manager and all DC colleagues’ rotas, review weekend coverage, and ensure sufficient hours for volume demand plans.
