The post holder will be required to undertake supervisory duties within the decontamination science discipline and oversee the workforce of Decontamination Technicians in HSDU and EDU, providing a specialised decontamination of medical devices service contributing to the clinical care of the patient. To carry out the receipt, disassembly, cleaning, reassembly, packing and where required sterilisation of reusable medical devices. Record all tasks in the Trust tracking and tracing system.
Work in accordance with the Department's Standard Operating Procedures and Quality Management Systems. To provide supervision and oversee training of new staff and Apprentice Decontamination Technicians within the team. Plan your own workload with limited supervision. The role involves exposure to blood and body fluids.
Undertake a range of duties within both Decontamination units at the Hospital, the Hospital Sterilisation and Decontamination Unit (HSDU) and Endoscope Decontamination unit (EDU).
Job responsibilitiesWalsall Healthcare NHS Trust is an integrated Trust and the only provider of NHS acute care in Walsall, serving a population of 284,300, providing inpatient and outpatient services at the Manor Hospital as well as a wide range of services in the community. Walsall Manor houses the full range of district general hospital services under one roof. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and the continued upgrading of existing areas ensures the Trust now has a state-of-the-art Critical Care Unit, Neonatal Unit, Obstetric Theatre, and Integrated Assessment Unit facilities.
A new Urgent Emergency Care Centre was opened in March 2023. The two-storey development has significantly improved emergency care facilities and capacity and has provided almost 5,000 square metres of additional clinical space.
Person Specification Qualifications- Educated to NVQ level 3 in relevant discipline or equivalent level of knowledge
- Sterile Services Department or Endoscopy Decontamination Unit User City & Guilds
- Have demonstrable experience working in sterile services.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team, demonstrating a collaborative approach and contributing positively to ideas
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships
- Approachable, adaptable and flexible towards the role and delivery.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
£24,937 to £26,598 a year per annum, pro rata
