We are excited to be advertising for a Paediatric Clinical Quality Lead. We are seeking an experienced nurse or allied health professional with a strong interest in quality to progress the patient safety agenda.
It is an exciting time to join the Paediatric team at Walsall due to the expansion and progression of the service. PAU is housed in a state-of-the-art purpose-built unit; the unit is leading the way in progressing virtual wards and a new team structure is creating a new dynamic way of team working. We are leading the way with digital innovation.
The Paediatric department includes of a 21-inpatient ward, a 12 bedded PAU, an elective day care unit, a virtual ward, children community nursing team and outpatient's department.
To be successful you will need to have a mature, compassionate, and sensitive manner with a genuine desire and passion to help people and progress quality. You must be able to show the trust values of Respect, Compassion, Teamwork and Professionalism in all that you do.
The role will forms part of the Senior Nursing team within paediatrics and neonates including the on-call rota.
Main duties of the jobIn a supervisory role, utilise supervision of clinical practice, clinical audit and research, to set, monitor and improve standards of care in addition to efficient and effective use of resources.
To be accountable for:
Ensuring safe and effective clinical practice across all professionals within the care group.
Enhancing the patient's experience.
Managing and monitoring the progression of high-quality clinical care.
Ensuring effective contribution to the delivery of the organisation's objectives
Deputising for Matron on quality matters
The post holder will provide leadership, advice, guidance and support to directors, managers, clinicians and staff on all quality and governance issues that affect the organisation, its employees and service users relating to paediatric concerns.
The post forms part of the senior nurse on call rota for the Care Group.

A new Urgent Emergency Care Centre was opened in March 2023. The two-storey development has significantly improved emergency care facilities and capacity and has provided almost 5,000 square metres of additional clinical space.
Job responsibilitiesTo ensure safe and effective clinical practice
As a visible designated healthcare professional leader set standards of care and professionalism and promote teamwork within a multi-professional environment, demonstrating critical analysis and decision-making skills, leading the delivery of a clinically excellent service, influencing and facilitating change within the ward/department and where appropriate the organisation.
Act as a change agent, developing clinically effective practice through the effective utilisation and integration of evidence-based practice, setting, implementing and monitoring evidence-based standards of care, policies, procedures and protocols.
Ensure a culture of continuous quality improvement using research, audit, patient feedback and reflection on practice by self and other members of the team.
Facilitate effective communication with the multi-professional team.
Continue to develop a just and fair no blame culture where staff are encouraged to report errors to improve quality of care to patients.
Assess the risks involved in the care of patients and ensure utilisation of practices and protocols to minimise those risks, including safe use of medical devices. To monitor the standards of care and take appropriate actions when standards fall below expected levels.
Promote a clean and safe environment for staff, patients and visitors by ensuring compliance with legislation, policies and protocols including health and safety, healthcare associated infection prevention, clinical governance, including risk management and incident reporting within PSIRF
Ensure a high standard of record keeping in accordance with Healthcare Professional standards, national legislation and local standards.
Report incidents and near misses promptly and appropriately and take effective action to minimise future risk.
To enhance the patients experience
Within a multidisciplinary team environment, develop a culture of person-centred care.
