Environmental Adviser
Imerys Head Office, Par, Cornwall (with UK travel 20%)
Salary up to £45,000 + bonus depending on experience

About the RoleWe are seeking a motivated, confident, and proactive Environmental Adviser to work closely with our operational teams, helping ensure we meet high standards of environmental performance and regulatory compliance. You will play a key role in embedding strong environmental practices, providing technical guidance, and supporting managers in delivering safe and responsible operations.
You will be a primary point of contact for environmental matters across several UK sites, providing advice on compliance, incident response, inspections, statutory reporting, and the ongoing development of our Environmental Management System (EMS). The role combines time on site with wider organisational support, offering you the opportunity to build relationships, influence outcomes and shape the way we manage environmental responsibilities.
This position provides a strong platform for personal and professional development, whether you wish to grow into a senior adviser role, specialise in auditing or compliance, or progress into wider EHS leadership.
What You Will Be Doing Environmental Compliance- Ensure sites meet environmental permit, licence and regulatory requirements.
- Carry out inspections and audits to identify risks, non‑conformities, and improvement opportunities.
- Provide practical, calm support during environmental issues and incidents.
- Liaise constructively with regulators such as the Environment Agency, local councils, DEFRA and other authorities.
- Support the maintenance and continual improvement of the Environmental Management System.
- Assist with internal and external ISO 14001 audits and keep documentation up to date.
- Help teams understand EMS requirements in real operational contexts.
- Collect, validate and submit statutory environmental data and returns.
- Manage environmental reporting systems, including Enablon.
- Prepare KPIs and insights to support operational decisions and continuous improvement.
- Develop strong relationships with site teams and managers.
- Provide constructive advice and challenge where needed.
- Promote a positive environmental culture across the business.
- Support the creation and delivery of environmental training.
- Share good practice and reinforce the importance of responsible environmental management.
- Experience in environmental compliance or EMS support.
- Good understanding of UK environmental legislation.
- Strong data management and reporting skills.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Experience with ISO 14001.
- Background in industrial, quarrying, mining or similar operational environments.
- Environmental degree or working towards IEMA, ISEP or CIEEM membership.
- Experience working with or liaising with regulators.
You will join a supportive EHS team committed to ensuring responsible operations and continuous improvement. The role involves close collaboration with site managers, operational teams and technical specialists across the UK, as well as regular engagement with external regulators.
