Environmental Consultant

Location:

Coventry, Birmingham or Derby | Hybrid working with site travel.

Salary: £30,000 - £40,000 + Excellent Benefits.

Irwin and Colton have partnered with a well‑established consultancy within the infrastructure and environmental sector to recruit an Environmental Consultant.

This role sits within a highly regarded environmental and geosciences team, supporting construction and infrastructure projects across the Midlands.

The position offers a true mix of site‑based and office‑based work, with a strong focus on surface water management, pollution prevention and practical environmental delivery on construction sites.

Responsibilities
  • Produce and audit environmental management plans for construction sites, including Pollution Prevention and Surface Water Management Plans.
  • Advise clients on UK environmental regulatory requirements, including permit applications, exemptions and liaison with the Environment Agency.
  • Respond to and manage environmental incidents, and provide practical on‑site advice and training on ecology, contamination and waste management.
  • Manage client relationships and projects, including supporting tenders and quotations within a multi‑disciplinary consultancy.
Qualifications
  • Hands‑on, practical approach with similar experience in a previous role within the construction, civils or engineering space.
  • Degree in a relevant environmental discipline or a related professional membership (e.g. IEMA/ISEP).
  • Practical knowledge of environmental management systems, including ISO 14001 and environmental permitting.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
