Responsible for: Absence management of students
Main purposeThe Attendance Manager will oversee an area of the day‑to‑day absence management of all students and support the Assistant Headteacher.
Responsibilities- Coordinate the first day calling process.
- Manage the academy registers accurately.
- Maintain timely and accurate communication systems for attendance.
- Review absence trends and take relevant action.
- Support the Attendance Team in improving whole academy attendance.
- Work with external partners such as EWO as directed.
- Act as liaison for students attending Alternative Provision.
- Develop and correctly administer academy registration systems and report on their quality.
- Produce and interpret statistical data on attendance patterns.
- Be the first contact for all attendance issues.
- Comply with policies relating to child protection, health and safety, security, confidentiality, and data protection. Report all concerns to the appropriate person.
- Attend and participate in meetings as required.
- Contribute to the overall ethos of the academy.
- Participate in training and performance development.
- Recognise strengths and areas of expertise and advise/support others.
- Assist in supervision, training, and development of staff.
- Lead the operation of student ‘late gate’ and late detentions.
- Support staff in checking student attendance and follow up on truancy checks.
- Provide updates for staff and parents/carers on student attendance.
- Challenge reasons for absence in line with academy policy.
- Run attendance clinics as directed by the Assistant Headteacher.
- Plan, lead, and collaborate to deliver Early Help to Families.
- Send attendance letters in line with academy policy.
- Implement relevant policies and practices in school.
- Attend meetings as directed.
- Provide inputs/updates at inclusion/pastoral meetings.
- Be proficient in the use of ICT and relevant programmes.
- Complete general administration related to attendance.
- Effectively safeguard students in line with academy policies.
- Share weekly reporting with key staff.
- Maintain school registers correctly.
- Organise daily checks on children at risk of truancy (off‑site).
- Initiate and carry out periodical post‑registration truancy checks.
- Chase up reasons for absence using agreed systems.
- Provide advice and support for students returning after extended absence.
- Contact feeder primary schools for attendance records of new students.
- Act as key point of contact in school for students on Alternative Provision.
- Support student transition to Alternative Provision.
- Provide re‑integration support packages.
- Implement strategies to support SEND/PP/CIC students to attend.
- Manage academy communication systems for attendance.
- Administer leave of absence requests from parents/carers.
- Provide updates to parents/carers on attendance of students.
- Ensure accurate information sharing for truanting students.
