About the roleWe are looking for a passionate, energetic, and resilient Physical Education & Outdoor Education Instructor who believes in the transformative power of sport and the outdoors. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference by engaging pupils through purposeful physical activity and meaningful outdoor experiences.
You will take the lead on planning, delivering, and assessing PE and Outdoor Education across the school. Working with small groups and on a 1:1 basis, you’ll create inclusive, engaging activities that support physical development, boost self-esteem, and nurture a lifelong enjoyment of movement and the natural environment.
Beyond PE, you’ll play a key role in supporting pupils’ communication, emotional regulation, and social interaction, adapting your approach to meet individual needs. The role is flexible and varied, with opportunities to support the wider curriculum and provide lesson cover when required.
Key Responsibilities- Plan, deliver and assess high-quality PE and Outdoor Education sessions for individuals and small groups
- Design engaging activities that develop pupils’ physical skills, knowledge, confidence and enjoyment of learning
- Promote positive physical development within a therapeutic and inclusive ASC environment
- Support pupils’ wellbeing, communication and social interaction through physical and outdoor learning
- Attend to the welfare and care needs of pupils throughout the school day
- Take responsibility for the planning cycle, ensuring learning is purposeful and progressive
- Contribute to the development and effective use of outdoor learning areas
- Provide general clerical and administrative support linked to the role
- Work flexibly to support the wider curriculum and provide cover where necessary
- Sport coaching qualifications (essential)
- Outdoor activity qualifications, such as Forest School (desirable, or willingness to work towards)
- Experience working with pupils with complex needs, ideally in outdoor or environmental settings
- A strong understanding of child development and the ability to plan appropriate outdoor learning experiences
- A passion for outdoor learning, resilience in all weather conditions, and a positive, flexible approach

About UsRyecroft School is an independent day school in Walsall, providing specialist education for autistic children and young people aged 4–18 years. We focus on meeting the unique learning needs of autistic pupils, including those with additional challenges such as learning disabilities and behaviours that may present as a result of their diagnoses. Our new school, which opened in September 2024, has a capacity for 60 pupils and is designed to support learners with autism and complex needs in a safe, nurturing, and structured environment.
