We're looking for a SEND Teaching Assistant to join a warm, inclusive primary school in the Handsworth area. You'll be based within their specialist resource base, supporting pupils with Autism (ASD), non‑verbal or pre‑verbal communication needs, developmental delay and EHCPs, helping them to learn, communicate and grow their skills each day. If you have experience supporting children with additional needs or a genuine passion for helping them thrive, this could be the perfect next step in your career.

Day

to Day
  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with ASD and significant communication needs.
  • Work with children who are non‑verbal or pre‑verbal, using visuals, gestures, modelling and structured routines.
  • Support pupils working at EYFS developmental levels, adapting activities to suit their learning profiles.
  • Implement EHCP targets, contributing to progress tracking and consistent support.
  • Assist children with sensory regulation, emotional needs and positive engagement.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships to help pupils feel safe, understood and ready to learn.
  • Work closely with teachers, the SENCO and external specialists to ensure each child receives high-quality, personalised support.
About You
  • Experience supporting children with ASD, speech/communication needs or developmental delay.
  • Confident using visual strategies and play‑based communication.
  • Passionate about helping children develop independence, confidence and communication skills.
  • A team player with strong communication and relationship‑building skills.
  • Relevant qualifications (Level 2/3 TA, Early Years, Childcare, SEND) are beneficial.
