Senior Residential Support Worker

We’re looking for an experienced and motivated Senior Residential Support Worker to help lead our team. In this role, you’ll take charge of shifts, provide guidance and support to staff, and ensure that children receive the best possible care. You’ll be a mentor to Residential Support Workers, helping them grow in confidence and skill, while also making sure the home runs smoothly.

Most importantly, your leadership will help create a warm, safe, and structured environment where children feel supported and encouraged to reach their full potential.

What You’ll Be Doing

Leading shifts and making sure everything runs smoothly, creating a positive and supportive atmosphere.

Supporting Residential Support Workers in their Key Worker roles, helping them build strong, trusting relationships with the children.

Coaching and mentoring staff, building their confidence and helping them develop their skills.

Carrying out staff supervisions and appraisals, offering constructive feedback and practical support.

Overseeing care plans, ensuring they reflect each child’s individual needs, interests, and strengths.

Encouraging children to take part in activities that help them build confidence, discover new interests, and develop their strengths.

Making sure children’s feedback is listened to and used to improve their experiences.

Providing emotional and practical support to children, especially during challenging times.

Ensuring safeguarding policies and procedures are followed at all times.

Keeping records up to date and contributing to reports and reviews.

Working closely with the management team to continually improve the home’s care and support.

What We’re Looking For

Essential

* Experience working with children in a residential setting.

* A good understanding of child development, trauma, and how past experiences can impact behaviour.

* Experience leading shifts and providing support to a team.

* Strong leadership skills with a natural ability to mentor and guide others.

* Experience carrying out supervisions and supporting professional growth.

* Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

* A proactive and reflective approach—someone who listens, learns, and continuously looks for ways to improve.

* Resilience, patience, and the ability to stay calm and consistent in challenging situations.

* A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

* Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare (or at least 75% of the way through completing it).

* Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as part of a rota.

* Basic IT and record-keeping skills.

* A full UK driving licence (desirable but not essential).

Desirable

* Experience supporting children with additional needs, mental health challenges, or behavioural difficulties.

* Knowledge of therapeutic or strengths-based approaches to childcare.

* Experience in improving care planning systems.
