We are looking to appoint a Receptionist to join our friendly GP practice on a fixed-term maternity cover contract.
The role involves providing a high-quality reception and administrative service to patients and supporting the wider practice team. The successful candidate will be patient-focused, organised, and able to work effectively in a busy primary care environment.
This post is for 23 hours per week and is offered on National Minimum Wage, dependent on age. Experience in a GP practice and use of EMIS Web is preferred but not essential, as training will be provided.
Main duties of the job- Receive, assist, and direct patients accessing the practice, both in person and by telephone
- Book, amend, and cancel appointments using EMIS Web
- Handle patient queries in a professional, calm, and confidential manner
- Signpost patients appropriately in line with practice protocols
- Process repeat prescription requests in accordance with practice procedures
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records on EMIS
- Manage incoming and outgoing correspondence, including electronic communications
- Support clinicians and the wider practice team as required
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with GDPR, data protection, and practice policies
- Contribute to a positive and supportive team environment

Job purpose
To provide an efficient, courteous, and confidential reception and administrative service to patients and staff, supporting the smooth running of the GP practice.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Provide front-of-house and telephone reception services
- Use EMIS Web to manage appointments and patient records
- Deal with patient requests and queries in a sensitive and professional manner
- Ensure patient confidentiality is maintained at all times
- Support administrative tasks as required
- Comply with all practice policies and procedures, including safeguarding, infection control, and health and safety
- Person specification
- Experience in a receptionist or customer-facing role
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to work under pressure in a busy environment
- Professional and empathetic approach
- Understanding of the importance of confidentiality
- Experience working in a GP practice or NHS setting
- Experience using EMIS Web
- Knowledge of primary care services
