Activity Assistant - Part Time (Healthcare)
Participate in planning and conducting individual, small, and large group activities. Assist in facilitating communication between employees of all levels, residents, their families, support personnel, government agencies, and the public to meet residents' needs and interests. Contribute to community planning related to the facility's services and residents' needs. Assist in developing the monthly activity calendar and maintaining attendance records.
Support the Quality Assurance and Assessment Committee in addressing quality deficiencies as directed by the Activities Director. Participate in discharge planning, develop and implement activity care plans, and perform resident assessments. Assist in arranging transportation for residents for outings, appointments, or discharges.
Help develop a monthly activity schedule, including outings, group activities, and in-room activities for bed-bound or isolated residents. Encourage residents to engage in self-initiated activities like hobbies, crafts, and reading, providing materials such as Braille or audio books as needed. Assist with documentation, quarterly progress notes, and maintain a clean and secure Activity Department.
Supervisory Requirements: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Preferably one year of experience in a long-term care facility
Skills:
- Ability to read and comprehend policies, procedures, and technical documents
- Effective communication skills to present information and respond to questions
- Mathematical skills applying concepts like fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions
- Problem-solving and interpretative skills for practical situations and instructions
Physical Demands: Ability to stand and walk frequently, sit occasionally, reach, push, pull, talk, hear, and smell regularly. Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds. Occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Vision should include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception with adjustable focus.
Work Environment: Usually low to moderate noise levels. Reasonable accommodations available for individuals with disabilities.
