Job Description
As a Tax Manager, Partnerships, you will be responsible for advising clients on the tax implications of their business objectives and various partnership specific items including but not limited to section 704(b) and taxable income allocations, capital account maintenance, liability analysis and allocations, section 734(b) and 743(b) adjustment calculations and Tax Receivable Agreement (TRA) calculations. In this role the Tax Manager, Partnerships will apply their knowledge and experience to understand potential partnership taxation issues and assist in the preparation of partnership specific computations.
The Tax Manager, Partnerships is key to the leadership team of the STS Partnership Practice and actively participates in the development of the group. In addition, the Tax Manager, Partnerships is an active participant in process improvement and team‑building initiatives, maintains client relationships, and acts as a source of guidance to other team members.
- Technical Expertise: Maintain and develop an in-depth understanding of partnership taxation issues and opportunities.
- Research: Identify when research is needed, frame issues, conduct research, and report analysis. Train associates on research skills.
- Tax Consulting: Develop and recommend efficient methods to maximize client benefits, decrease taxes, manage risk, and implement firm strategies. Manage client expectations.
- Professional Development: Train and mentor associates, senior associates, and managers. Organize and conduct external CPE training sessions in partnership domain at least once per year.
- Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise associates and senior associates; review work; provide performance feedback; schedule workloads; act as career advisor; train on software tools.
- Bachelor’s degree required; major in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Statistics preferred.
- Master’s in Accountancy or Taxation preferred.
- Five or more years of relevant tax experience required; specialized partnership experience required.
- Prior supervisory experience preferred.
- Private equity experience at fund and portfolio company levels preferred.
- CPA, attorney, or enrolled agent preferred; other relevant certifications preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and tax research databases preferred.
- Superior verbal and written communication skills.
- Effective delegation and team management.
- Strong analytical, research, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work well in team environment and meet deadlines.
- Ability to develop and maintain client relationships.
- Executive presence and primary contact capability.
Individual salaries are determined based on experience, skills, geography. National, Maryland, NYC/Long Island/Westchester, Washington DC ranges: $79,800 – $168,000.
