Overview
Geotechnical Engineer position in Geosyntec's Oakland, Walnut Creek, Davis, and Sacramento offices. The role applies engineering skills to projects involving landfills, mines, brownfields redevelopment, and other water and waste containment systems, while developing business skills for a successful consulting career. Geosyntec is an international engineering and consulting firm serving private and public-sector clients on environmental, natural resources, and civil infrastructure projects.

- Civil design and site layout.
- Geotechnical engineering analyses such as slope stability, settlement, bearing capacity, liquefaction triggering, and seepage.
- Geotechnical site characterization.
- Seismic hazard analysis.
- Small project/task management and proposal preparation support.
- Preparation of engineering reports, design calculations, drawings, technical specifications, and permit applications.
- Plan and execute subsurface investigations.
- Request, review, and interpret lab test results.
- Classify soils and evaluate engineering properties.
- Data analysis, organization, and visualization.
- Fieldwork associated with geotechnical exploration, design, and construction services.
- Based on experience, may take on task-level or project management responsibilities, along with business development and staff mentoring tasks.
- Drive personal, company, and rental vehicles to client or project sites and other business locations as needed.
- Bachelor's degree in civil or geotechnical engineering (required).
- Advanced degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Geology (preferred).
- Professional registration (P.E. or P.G.) (preferred).
- Engineer in Training (EIT) or actively pursuing registration.
- At least 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience (required).
- Experience with modeling/design tools such as Geostudio Slope/W and Seep/W, gINT/Open Ground, CPET-IT and Cliq, Lpile and Apile, Quake Manager, Strata, DEEPSOIL, FLAC, PLAXIS, AutoCAD (preferred).
- Coding experience (e.g., Python, MATLAB, Excel) (preferred).
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) (required).
- Occasional fieldwork and overnight travel (required).
- Excellent writing and communication skills (required).
- Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing may be required.
- Valid U.S. driver s license and satisfactory driving record for business travel (required).
This opportunity will be posted for at least five days. Compensation ranges are provided below for jobs in the specified locations. Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set, and location.
- Minimum Salary: $97,255/year;
Maximum Salary: $126,430/year (Davis, Sacramento, CA) - Minimum Salary: $101,675/year;
Maximum Salary: $132,180/year (Oakland, Walnut Creek, CA)
